Being an artist can be expensive!

There are supplies, exhibition fees, vendor fees, printing, framing, and so many other costs that artists are often expected to pay before they even have the opportunity to show or sell their work.

The Create As You Are grant is designed to support artists in the New York area who have a financial need to make their vision come to life. Each grant cycle, Create As You Are will give one artist $300 to help make their creative opportunity possible.

Who is this for?

Visual artist and makers 18+ who live in the greater New York area. That includes:

  • Painters and visual artists

  • Illustrators

  • Photographers

  • Ceramicists

  • Fiber and textile artists

  • Zinesters

  • Graphic designers

  • Printmakers

  • Collage and mixed media artists

  • Sculptors

  • Other visual artists and makers

03 / WHAT IT CAN SUPPORT

What can the $300 be used for?

Art supplies and materials
Exhibition or open-call fees
Vendor, market, or table fees
Printing and production
Framing and mounting work
Shipping or transporting work
Equipment rental
Portfolio or presentation costs
Another expense related to creating, showing, or selling your work

04 / SELECTION

How we choose:

This isn't an art competition. We're looking for a situation where $300 could be the difference of getting your work in front of people or making something that otherwise would be put on hold.

We'll consider:

  • What the funding will pay for and how clearly you know what you need
  • What the funding will make possible
  • If it can be produced in the next six months

To keep the selection process fair, close friends, family members, and anyone with a significant personal or professional relationship with the grant organizer are not eligible to receive the grant.

If you're selected:

You'll receive $300 to use toward the opportunity you shared in your application. Afterward, we'll ask you to share a photo, video, or short update showing what the grant helped make possible. I'd love to share you and your work with my community! Ideally, within the next six months of receiving the grant.
